Team B, “The Royal Tribe,” encountered hardship early when they lost to Sand Springs High School in two tie-breaker rounds. They went on to defeat Colbert High School, but ultimately fell to Norman North. Students competing for Team B included Tyler Langley, Tracy Carter, Thomas Tiger, Mekko Jones and Kelsie Fixico. Team A, “The Nations,” defeated two teams from Ada, and both Morris and Norman High Schools en route to the championship. Captain Aja Tainpeah led fellow students Preston Goombi, Will Watts, Numu Tomahsah, Lauren Deere and Adam Ramirez to their first place victory. Coaches for the two Shawnee teams were Jessica Deere, Yvonne Honeyestewa and Tewanna Edwards. The Oklahoma American Indian Challenge Bowl was sponsored by the Oklahoma Council for Indian Education.
