Douthitt sisters court success with scholastic accomplishments

Cara and Chelsea Douthitt of Bixby, Oklahoma, are to be commended for their achievements for the 2007-2008 school year.

Cara and Chelsea are the daughters of Richard and Pat Douthitt. Their grandparents are Perry and Polly Palmer of Tulsa, and the late Bryan and Marie Douthitt. They are the great-granddaughters of the late Alec and Nora Cully, and the great-nieces of Jane McKane of Yeager, and Amy Owings of Sasakwa. The Douthitt sisters are Seminole tribal members of the Mekusukey band and the Wind clan.

Chelsea is a 5th grader at the Bixby North 5th and 6th Grade Center, where she was a valuable asset to the school academic team this year. She participated in the Whitey Ford basketball league, and was also 1 of only 25 students selected for the school swing choir. Chelsea is a member of the Duke University Talent Identification Program.

Cara, too, is a member of the Duke University Talent Identification Program, for which she will be recognized in a ceremony at the University of Tulsa on May 15. A student at Bixby Middle School, Cara was 1 of 718 Oklahoma 7th graders who earned state recognition for their high SAT and ACT college entrance exam scores.

She is also a member of the Gifted and Talented Organization at school, and is endowed with great artistic ability.

Among her extracurricular activities, Cara plays clarinet and saxophone for both the school and jazz bands, and participates in the Whitey Ford basketball league, where her 6th-8th grade team won the league championship.

Congratulations to both Cara and Chelsea Douthitt for all their accomplishments.
